April 8 - May 17:  Sue Haislmaier

The Gallery Committee is pleased to present member artist Sue Haislmaier’s paintings beginning April 8 and running through May 18 in the Leenhouts Common Room.  Here is Sue's "Artist's Statement:"

In this world stressed with global, social, political, and environmental conflict I find peace, creativity, total absorption, and some control over my own little universe, in the act of painting.   It gives me the opportunity to preserve those delightful moments of discovery I experience and enjoy as a homemaker, avid gardener and environmental educator. Painting enables me to preserve and honor endangered species and wonderful wild places.

Whatever the weather or time of day, I am alert to the way light plays on a subject.  Creating a painting is rather magical.  The image unfolds gradually, layer upon watery layer; sometimes the end result is quite different than my original idea.  The manipulation of paint and the layering of pigment with multiple watercolor washes, creates a depth I find challenging, satisfying and full of surprise.

Each painting for me is a transformative meditative experience.  I experience joy and an intimate spiritual connection to the object or place I create, my hope is that the viewer does too.

We hope all enjoy the work on display.

Please direct any questions regarding the current exhibit or sales of the work to the church office.
